Have you ever felt like you’re doing everything — checking the boxes, showing up, pushing forward — and still somehow feel like it’s not enough?
Same.
There are days I’m juggling life, responsibilities, emotional healing, and spiritual growth… and yet, I still catch myself thinking, “I should be doing more.”
But I’ve come to realize something important: balance isn’t a perfect equation. It’s not one-size-fits-all. And it definitely isn’t something you master once and for all. It’s personal. It’s fluid. It shifts with you.
The Myth of Perfect Balance
We live in a world where being busy is glorified — like it’s the only way to prove our worth. But real balance? It’s not about doing everything. It’s about doing what matters right now.
And sometimes, what matters most is giving yourself space to breathe, to rest, to reflect. That’s not laziness — that’s strength.
What Balance Looks Like for Me
Right now, I’m in a season of rebuilding. Life has changed in ways I didn’t expect, and I’m learning how to trust myself again — to make bold decisions, to move forward with intention, and to pursue peace over perfection.
I’m working on a few things quietly — planting seeds, so to speak. I am teaching myself new skills. Taking time to learn strategies that will become fruitful in the future. I do this after working my full time job which I love. I also keep up with all the house work and yard work.
At the same time, I’m making sure I stay present for the people I love. Whether it’s my family, my friends, or someone in need of a little encouragement — showing up matters to me. Not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. And to do that, I’ve had to get real about preserving my energy too.
Some days that means taking a break. Other days it means doing the work behind the scenes. Either way, I’m learning to trust the pace that feels aligned, not pressured.
Areas of Life That Call for Balance
In reality, life is not just about work or rest. There are multiple areas constantly pulling at our energy. Here are the five that I’m always trying to stay aware of:
🧠 Mental Health:
Checking in with your thoughts, feelings, and mindset. It means creating space for reflection, therapy, quiet time, or even saying “no” without guilt. Mindfulness is a great technique here.
🏃🏽♀️ Physical Health:
Moving your body, fueling it well, resting when needed — not out of punishment but out of love. This includes sleep, nutrition, exercise, and recovery. I am aiming for 30 minutes a day at least 4 days a week.
💼 Work & Purpose:
Whether it’s a job, a calling, or both — balance here means setting boundaries, managing time, and being okay with turning your work brain off after hours. Work is your financial anchor. This is very important to prioritize. We balance this by simply giving your 100 while at work but when you are off the clock you turn off your work brain.
🏠 Home & Relationships:
Our homes and families need our attention, too. That includes being emotionally available, showing up for loved ones, and still carving out space for solitude. Taking care of our homes can also be interpreted as taking care of our sanity. Remember messy homes, messy mind. Making daily time to tidy up will decrease the weekend time you spend cleaning. Have a system and a routine.
🙏 Spiritual Life:
For me, this is the foundation. Spending time with God grounds me when everything else feels unsteady. Spiritual connection brings peace and clarity that nothing else can. Whether it is morning hours to start your day of right before bed, it doesn’t matter. Do not give God your “extra time”, be intentional with the time you dedicate to Him.
5 Ways to Create More Balance in Your Life
- Check in with yourself daily.
Ask: What do I need today? Sometimes it’s discipline, sometimes it’s rest. Get honest without judgment. - Set boundaries with your time and energy.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Protect your peace, your schedule, and your space. - Get comfortable with small wins.
You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight. Small steps count. Celebrate progress, not perfection. - Limit outside noise.
Comparison kills balance. Focus on your lane, your values, your pace. Mute the distractions. - Stay spiritually connected.
Whatever your faith looks like, let it guide you. A grounded spirit leads to a grounded life.
My Reminder to You (and Me)
You don’t have to be perfect to be powerful.
You don’t have to have it all figured out to be making progress.
And you’re allowed to move in silence — your success doesn’t need an audience to be real. You’re doing better than you think. So am I. Let’s keep showing up — for ourselves, for the people we love, and for the future we’re building, even if no one sees it yet.
Redefining Balance on Your Terms
You don’t owe anyone a perfectly curated version of your life. Nor do you don’t have to broadcast your plans or explain your boundaries. We just have to know what we need — and honor it.
Balance, for me, is holding space for rest and ambition at the same time. It’s loving others while not abandoning myself. It’s listening to God, following peace, and knowing that not everything needs to be loud to be powerful.
You’re doing better than you think. So am I.
Let’s keep showing up — for ourselves, for the people we love, and for the future we’re building, even if no one sees it yet.
